What's Under My Needle Today - June 30, 2020

I'm often asked how to do an edge to edge design on a panel without the quilting ruining the beautiful picture.  My trick is a combination of pattern selection and 100 wt thread (thinner than a human hair).  That makes the quilting stay in the background and only provide texture!

When I have multiple quilts where I want to use the same thread and pattern, I frequently load them side by side and quilt them in a single pass.  This is how I can quilt with no minimum charge.  It doesn't always work out but it does often enough that I do not see the need for a minimum.

Today I am quilting a top that was pieced more than 25 years ago and many of the fabrics are 20 years older than that.  I've identified raw silk, rayon, nylon, polyester, cotton poly blend, cotton flannel and cotton fabrics.  The top maker is unknown but someone in the family of the owner.  It was found in her mom's closet and will soon be on her bed.

Today it is my pleasure to quilt this Curiosity quilt.  It was made by a dear quilter and friend of many of us in Central Louisiana, Robyn Hershey, that we lost much too early. We will miss her every time we gather in the classroom at Aunt Nell's.  Her memorial service is Monday.  Let me know if you need directions.
